Winter Porta Potty & Restroom Trailer Rental
Keeping Job Sites and Events Running When It Freezes
Northeast Indiana winters don’t stop construction or events, and they shouldn’t stop your crew or your guests from having a clean restroom. Here’s how to keep porta potties and restroom trailers usable from the first freeze to spring thaw.
Winter Porta Potty Quote
Work doesn’t stop when the temperature drops. Foundations still get poured, framing still goes up, and road and utility crews still show up at 7 a.m. in the dark. A job site porta potty that works fine in July needs a little more planning in January — here’s what changes in winter and how to keep your crew’s restroom clean and usable all season.
What Changes for Porta Potties in Winter
Freezing. The liquid in a porta potty’s holding tank can freeze in a hard cold snap, and so can the water in a hand wash station. The tank treatment and service schedule have to be set up for cold weather, so tell us when you book that the unit will be out through freezing temperatures.
Ice, snow and footing. The path to the unit — and the step into it — is where winter injuries happen. A unit sitting on bare mud in November can be sitting in a frozen rut by December.
Heavy coats and gear. Crews in insulated bibs, coats and harnesses need more room to move. That’s why our handicap porta potty is especially popular on construction sites in winter: it sits at ground level with no step up, has a wider door, and has room to turn around in heavy gear.
Short days. In December, a lot of the workday happens in the dark. An LED light inside the unit — an add-on we offer — makes a big difference on early starts and late finishes.
How to Keep Job Site Restrooms Usable All Winter
Place it smart. Put units on level, firm ground — gravel or pavement is ideal — close to where the crew is working but out of the path of equipment and snowplows. If you can, face the door away from the prevailing wind and give the unit some sun. Keep a clear, salted path to the door, and don’t let plowed snow get piled against it.
Keep service on schedule. Regular pumping, cleaning and restocking matter even more in winter, when a full tank is harder to deal with and nobody wants to stand in a cold, neglected unit. Tell us your crew size and we’ll set a service schedule that fits. If the site will be shut down over the holidays, let us know so we can plan service around it.
Choose the right unit mix. Most sites run standard porta potties with at least one ADA unit for the extra room. If water freezing in a sink is a concern, hand sanitizer inside the unit is an easy add-on; if your project needs a hand wash station, ask us about keeping it usable in the cold.

Restroom Trailers Work All Winter, Too
A lot of people assume restroom trailers are a summer-only rental. They aren’t. Our restroom trailers stay in service all winter long, for events and for longer projects alike.
For winter events. A restroom trailer gives guests a climate-controlled room with flushing toilets, running-water sinks and good lighting. That’s the difference between guests dashing in and out of the cold and actually being comfortable. It’s the go-to choice for winter weddings, holiday parties, company events and festivals where people are outside for hours.
For projects. Restroom trailers also work on longer winter jobs: commercial construction, building and office remodels when the restrooms are torn out, and other long-term projects where crews or staff need a real restroom with running water instead of a cold plastic unit.
Just tell us your dates and that the trailer will be out in freezing weather, and we’ll set it up and service it for cold conditions.
Winter Events Need Restrooms Too
Christmas tree lots, holiday markets, outdoor light displays, ice fishing derbies and winter weddings all bring people outside in the cold. For guests, a restroom trailer is the warmest option. For smaller gatherings, a few standard units plus an ADA unit work well — our porta potty calculator will tell you how many you need.

Winter Porta Potty FAQs
Do porta potties freeze in the winter?
The holding tank and any water in a hand wash station can freeze in a hard cold snap. Let us know the unit will be out in freezing weather so the tank treatment and service schedule are set up for cold conditions.
Which porta potty is best for a construction site in winter?
Many crews like our handicap / ADA unit in winter because it has a ground-level entry with no step, a wider door, and room to turn around in heavy coats. Most sites pair it with standard units.
How often should a job site porta potty be serviced in winter?
It depends on crew size and how long the project runs. Regular pumping, cleaning and restocking are just as important in winter. Tell us your crew size and we’ll recommend a schedule.
Can you rent a restroom trailer in the winter?
Yes. Our restroom trailers stay in service all winter for events and projects. Tell us your dates and that the trailer will be out in freezing weather, and we’ll set it up and service it for cold conditions.
Where should I place a porta potty in the snow?
On level, firm ground like gravel or pavement, near the work area but out of the way of equipment and snowplows. Keep a clear, salted path to the door and don’t pile plowed snow against the unit.
